While the main event for UFC 118 is the rematch Edgar vs Penn, a more momentous bout will take place Saturday August 28th2010.The Randy Couture vs James Toney bout is of significant importance as it may well usher a fresh pool of incredible and expertathletes to the MMA world. The question has been asked before, how would a professional boxer fare against a professional MMAfighter? To most of us it seems like a rhetorical question. However, if the boxer trains to defend take downs and kicks, could the breadth and length of his expertise as a boxer provide him with the practical insight and dexterity to sway avictory at the octagon.
Should Toney prevail vs the more popular UFC hall of fame r Couture, the way would be paved for professional boxers and it would surely galvanize the boxing world into MMA and the UFC.This is very exciting as it would improve one of the dimensions of MMA. This would force current and future MMA fighters tofurther hone their boxing skills resulting in an even more elite fighter.
Randy Cotoure is an amazing athlete who has been a UFC world heavy weight champion and is in the UFC hall of fame. James Toney does not come without accomplishments of his own.Boasting an impressive professional boxing record of 83 fights, 72 victories, 44 of them by knock out, the heavy handed Toneywill pose a real threat to Couture.
Speculations could be made as to how this match will turn out, but come August 28th we will speculate no longer. Both men will come ready for battle and finally dispel all myths about professional boxers in theMMA world.
